HOUSTON - Eddie Griffin never played in Houston for coach Jeff Van Gundy, who described him Saturday as "Garbo-esque." Now Griffin's chances of playing for the Nets this season have diminished to virtually nil, as he heads for six weeks of alcohol rehabilitation.

"Eddie fully realized that alcohol is the root of all these problems," his attorney, Rusty Hardin, said Saturday while standing near his courtside seat for the Nets' 88-77 victory over the Rockets. "He realizes this is his fight and his problem."
