If the Passaic County government sells the county golf course to fill a budget shortfall this year, golfers will likely be paying substantially higher greens fees in the aftermath.

The freeholders have floated the idea of selling the county-run course in Wayne to the Passaic County Improvement Authority to close a $33 million budget gap. Under the plan, the improvement authority would bond money to pay the county for the course, run it and use the course revenues to pay back the bond.
