Concert for the Generations ; Church Choir has Performed 'Messiah' for 60 Years

Cathedral Choir, which performs its annual "Messiah" concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Hawthorne Gospel Church, has been singing George Frideric Handel's classic oratorio for more than 60 years.

Decade after decade, choir members return because they love it: the choir, the music, the words, the message. Members' sons and daughters, raised on the performances, turn 14 or 15 and join the choir. "Messiah" is sung at their weddings and funerals. Longtime members like Pete Borduin, 71, a member for 58 years, have the three- hour piece memorized.
