Friendships Can Begin On the Trail ; Skiers Have Special Bond

Summary


Six of us, friends since high school, sat daily at ski day's end on the restaurant patio in Vail, Colo. We drank a few leisurely pitchers of beer, and replayed the day's triumphs and comic calamities. We who love to slide on snow tend to pursue our pastime with people we love. Or, at least with people we like a lot. Or, as often happens, with people we meet on the chair or trail.

Those Vail apres-ski days took place in 1980-something. But I've experienced this bonding, if you will, each season. Indeed, it's happened innumerable times in the last two seasons.
