Ford Motor Co. and the EPA just don't get it. Responding to an environmental lawsuit from Ringwood residents and a front-page investigative report by The Record, the car company and the federal environmental agency now say they will conduct some limited additional sampling for industrial pollution at the company's former dump site in the northern part of the borough.

The testing had better not be as halfhearted as it sounds, because it doesn't take a biochemist to see the environmental problems at the old 500-acre dump - beginning with a groundwater testing well that has an oozy peanut-butter-like substance clogging the standpipe.
