At the cruise industry's annual conference for travel agents and cruise lines in March in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., family travel columnist Eileen Ogintz moderated a special panel of young cruise veterans, ages 7 to 15. Here are some of their tips for kids cruising for the first time.

Know what you are getting into: "Look on the Internet," says 11- year-old Matthew Moris, "so that you can learn a little about the ship and plan what you want to do onboard, as well as what you want to do in the different ports."
