Authorities are methodically surveying damage in flood-ravaged areas of North Jersey as a prelude to providing federal flood relief.

On Wednesday, staff from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the state Office of Emergency Management went to Pompton Lakes, Little Falls, Lodi, New Milford, Lincoln Park and Fairfield. They walked the streets, checked homes and public buildings, and talked to residents.
