WASHINGTON The Supreme Court on Monday declined to consider two cases that center on the issue of when states can tax companies outside their borders, disappointing many business groups that wanted the court to limit the ability of states to do so.
The justices, without comment, let stand rulings by state courts in West Virginia and New Jersey that allowed those states to levy income and franchise taxes on companies that do not have a physical presence in the states, such as employees, stores or an office.See the full content of this document
