Firefighters Join in Disaster Response Effort ; Paterson Department to Receive Specialized Training, Equipment

Summary


PATERSON - City firefighters are members of a newly formed statewide task force that will respond to catastrophes at critical sites including bridges, tunnels and bus and railroad stations.

The team's North Jersey unit, part of the Urban Area Security Initiative and comprising firefighters from Passaic, Bergen, Hudson, Essex, Union and Morris counties, will receive specialized training in collapsed building response. Those counties account for 44 percent of the state's population and contain more than a third of the most critical transit infrastructure.
