Clear blue skies gave way to a block party that gathered on Lakeside Avenue as residents filled the streets with music, food, games and a sense of unity to celebrate the town's sixth annual Pompton Day festival Sunday.

Despite the town's ongoing challenges brought on by the decades of pollution associated with the former DuPont munitions factory site and flooding in the Passaic River Basin, residents have stayed for generations -- raising children, grandchildren and some even returning to the close-knit community that holds much of their identity.
