Some 600 students at Pequannock Valley Middle School received a lesson in embracing diversity Tuesday.

The Pompton Plains school held its third annual Mix It Up at Lunch Day, part of a national program that encourages students to break down social barriers by sitting with someone new in the cafeteria. It's meant to teach kids not to label others or allow themselves to be labeled.
