Q. I've been having a problem, and I'm wondering if it is just happening to me or is a common problem. I recently made a purchase on an auction Web site, and I sent the seller a very polite letter in which I asked him a simple question. The seller never responded to my e-mail.

Shortly after that, I responded to a request for an interview for a research project (I thought that I met the criteria) and again my e-mail was ignored. I find that instances like those keep happening to me over and over. Is this acceptable behavior on the Internet?
