There came a time in the season when Elvis Cabrera realized volleyball had to be more than just a good time. The Clifton middle hitter obviously enjoys being out on the court, but as one of the Mustangs' few seniors, he also needed to be more of a team leader.

The way Cabrera met that responsibility rising up in the same way he would soar to pound a volleyball was the reason Clifton was able to make its surprising run in the State tournament. It's also why Cabrera has been named The Record's Boys Volleyball Player of the Year. Cabrera edged out Fair Lawn senior outside hitter Vlad Livshits for the honor.
