Summary


It was just beginning to rain when I got out of the car. Not rain, really, more of a sprinkle, the kind that's warm and so gentle you don't think of it as getting wet.

This wasn't my first sighting of Lake Eola. There was something about the lake that had instantly charmed me, kept me coming back for drive-bys so that finally I just had to park the car and get out, walk on the grass, take a few pictures a welcome escape from the thrill-a-minute overload of the theme parks Orlando is best known for.

Downtown Orlando Making a Name for Itself

The smell of bread baking came to me from a shop on the corner of Robinson and Eola as I headed to one of the park's gazebos closer to the water. Birds were sitting along the railing, silent and perfectly spaced. Out in the middle of the lake, the fountain shifted in the breeze. A family sped up their pace on the footpath what had started as a sprinkle was working itself into a shower and a young couple folded up their picnic blanket.
