Three Republicans appeared headed toward easy victories in the 26th Legislative District, riding a promise to cut taxes.

With 40 percent of the vote counted, Alex DeCroce, the 71-year- old GOP Assembly leader from Parsippany, and his running mate, newcomer Jay Webber, were leading their rivals by a better than 2- to-1 margin. DeCroce, in a bid for his ninth term, and Webber were on their way to defeating a pair of first-time Democratic candidates, David Modrak, 45, a cancer researcher from Montville, and Morris Plains resident Wayne Marek, 32, an inventory controller for the cellphone company T Mobile.
