Summary


At this point, the Bush administration's campaign to partially privatize Social Security is losing at least as many supporters as it's gaining. During the past week in particular, Republican members of Congress have been bombarded by their constituents with criticism of the plan.

For some backers of the plan, at least, there's no reason to panic. Rather than continuing to argue the plan's merits, they're changing their strategy. They're now trying to raise controversy about AARP, formerly known as the American Association of Retired Persons and now the leading lobby group for preserving Social Security as it is.
