NEWARK - Recognizing that he may have already waited too long to make a move to shake up his team, Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello placed left wing Brian Rolston on waivers Tuesday in what is likely the first step of a process aimed at clearing salary cap space.
Rolston's contract, which has another season remaining on it after this one and carries an annual cap hit of $5,062,500, make it unlikely that another team will claim him before today's noon deadline.
