A former Passaic councilman was sentenced Friday to 18 months in prison for lying to a grand jury reviewing corruption evidence.

Gerardo Fernandez, 52, was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and serve two years of supervised release with the condition that he cannot hold public office during that time, acting U.S. Attorney Ralph J. Marra Jr. said in a statement.
