Bob Williams was scared that his career as Northern Highlands baseball coach wasn't going to last too long. In his first game, the Highlanders blew a 10-0 lead to reigning State champion Demarest and lost, 13-12. Six games later the Highlanders were still winless. But the rookie Williams had a fan in veteran athletic director Herb Cohen.

"He'd call me after every game and tell me to keep my head up and that a lot of great coaches started their careers with losing records," Williams said. "I never forgot that."
