CLIFTON - In an era of corporate mergers and downsizing, a peewee version of the business model has been applied to the city's Little Leagues.

After a decade of declining Little League participation, the Central Division will be rolled into the Southern Division to create a Little League conglomerate with more than 30 teams, Ernie Berthold, Clifton Southern Division Little League president, said Wednesday. Speaking like a CEO, an enthusiastic Berthold said the merger would create bigger leagues with more teams and a wider base of volunteers to run the games.
