Carlstadt, Mills End Legal Action ; Each Faced Costly Risk in Empire Tract Fight

Summary


Mills Corp. and the borough of Carlstadt onetime allies who wound up suing each other in the aftermath of a failed effort by Mills to build a megamall on the Empire Tract have agreed to drop their respective lawsuits.

According to the terms of the deal, which was announced this week, Mills no longer will pursue a claim for reimbursement of more than $12 million in taxes that Mills had paid the borough since the late 1990s in anticipation of development.
