Swollen rivers receded slowly on Thursday under a steady rain, but residents in deluged sections of Passaic and Bergen counties were bracing themselves for another round of flooding that is expected to begin today and last through the weekend.

By Sunday, the Passaic River is projected to crest at nearly 11 feet in Little Falls, well above the 7-foot flood stage, likely causing serious damage, according to the National Weather Service. Major flooding is also possible along the Ramapo, Passaic, Raritan and Delaware rivers, as well as many smaller streams, officials say.
