Big Boost in Funds to Protect Region's Ports and Transit

Summary


The North Jersey-New York region will receive the bulk of a $189 million increase in federal security grants to protect ports and transportation systems around the country, the Homeland Security Department announced Friday.

Grants for transit security will nearly triple over last year's amount to $173.3 million, and port security funding will increase 67 percent to $45.5 million.
