PASSAIC -- A three-alarm fire destroyed a vacant house and left the city with unmanned firehouses for more than four hours early Wednesday, as fire departments in neighboring towns struggled with flooding emergencies.
When firefighters arrived, the house was engulfed in flames from the basement through the second floor, and the blaze was threatening homes on either side. First responders evacuated the two neighboring homes and fought the fire for about two hours before getting it under control.
