WASHINGTON Anita B. Roberts, a highly regarded cancer researcher whose work illuminated how the disease progresses and how wounds heal, died of gastric cancer May 26 at her home in Bethesda, Md. She was 66.

Dr. Roberts, one of the most-cited scientists in the world, was chief of the Laboratory of Cell Regulation and Carcinogenesis at the National Cancer Institute, where she created a nurturing culture, a colleague said.
