NEW YORK - Exactly what is Joe Girardi's future in the Bronx? It's a relevant question now that his Plan B, the Cubs, handed the job to Mike Quade on Tuesday. Girardi lost whatever leverage he might've had with the Yankees, and it becomes anyone's guess how much equity he has with general manager Brian Cashman and the Steinbrenner family.

Girardi's popularity with ownership had been at an all-time high going into the postseason, but the good will seemed to evaporate in the ALCS - at least with Yankee fans, who were booing Girardi loudly in the seventh inning of Game 4 Tuesday night.
