N.J. Franchisee Leads Tcby Foray
A 24-year-old entrepreneur is leading TCBY's expansion in North Jersey and its first forays into shopping malls. This month, Kishan Kansagra held a grand opening for the chain's new self-serve frozen yogurt shop on Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey. Earlier in the year, Kansagra opened a TCBY in the Woodbridge Center mall. In 2011, he was the first franchisee to plant TCBY's flag in an enclosed shopping center in the nation, when Kansagra opened an outlet in the Paramus Park mall.
WrestleMania 29 scored a knockout this month, turning out to be the biggest event ever in World Wrestling Entertainment's history, officials said Thursday. The April 7 extravaganza grossed more than $72 million, according to the WWE. The wrestling Super Bowl, where John Cena won back the world championship from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, was staged at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. It attracted a sold-out crowd of 80,676 fans from all 50 states and 34 countries. In addition, WrestleMania...
When a stock analyst during an earnings conference call Thursday asked United Continental Holdings Inc.'s chief revenue officer, Jim Compton, how long the airline is willing to "bleed" its newest competitor at Newark, Virgin America, by adding flights and lowering fares on Los Angeles and San Francisco flights, Compton did not take the bait. The way the airline exec characterized the seemingly anti- competitive "capacity dumping" strategy is that the airport's dominant carrier is merely tryin...
Tcby Poised for a Comeback, but Will It Work?
TCBY, a onetime pioneer in the frozen yogurt market, is trying to make a comeback. Frosty fro-yo is red hot with health-conscious consumers, and the chain is hungering to increase its market share. Broomfield, Colo.-based TCBY plans to open 85 stores this year, with about 11 of those units scheduled for New Jersey, said Brian Mooney, TCBY's eastern regional director of operations. A franchise in Ramsey had its grand opening earlier this month.
Redevelopment at Soon-to-Be-Vacant Office Site
Pearson will be vacating its 47-acre site in Upper Saddle River at the end of 2014, and Hersh has said Mack-Cali would like to put a multi-use development on that campus. Mack-Cali Realty Corp. may consult with "an institution of higher education'' to plan the redevelopment of the Pearson Education site in Upper Saddle River, the real estate company's chief executive officer said Thursday.
Gains in Loan Business Lift Quarterly Profits at Oritani
Oritani Financial Corp., the holding company for Oritani Bank, said earnings rose about 18 percent in its third quarter on higher loan revenue and a smaller provision set aside for possible future loan losses, more than offsetting a slight increase in expenses. The lender, based in Washington Township, reported that net income rose to $9.9 million, or 23 cents a share in the three months ended March 31, from $8.4 million, or 20 cents, in the year-earlier period.
Impairment Loss Offsets Vornado's Income From Toys 'R' Us
NEW YORK -- Vornado Realty Trust said Thursday that net income from its share of Toys "R'' Us Inc.'s fourth-quarter results would be offset by a corresponding impairment loss. The real-estate investment trust, which bought a stake in the Wayne-based toy company in 2005, said it earned $78.5 million in equity from Toys' fiscal fourth quarter, which ended Feb. 2. However, an impairment loss of the same amount negated the income derived from Vornado's 32.5 percent stake in Toys.
