For soldiers, home's a whole new world ; Economy may add to strain of adjustment

No one was killed or wounded. No one even had to dodge enemy bullets or fire a gun. Nevertheless, the return of Teaneck's Foxtrot Company from Iraq is no easy transition to a homeland weighed down by joblessness, home foreclosures and business failures.

Why did school spend $1.1M on 2 microscopes? ; Yet Bergen Tech cut staff, other programs

The Bergen County Technical School District has paid more than $1.1 million for two electron microscopes in the past two years while other programs have faced significant cuts or elimination. The microscopes reside in the Bergen Academies and have been heralded by administrators as jewels in the elite school's crown. But teachers and their union representatives question whether spending that much money makes sense as the economy falters and course offerings are phased out.

More employees staying put

There were 2.7 million job openings in the U.S. in March -- the latest month available. Good news, yes, but down a whopping 44 percent from a high in June 2007. And that's apparently making the still-employed think twice about telling the boss to take this job and shove it. The U.S. Labor Department has a designation called "quits" -- voluntary job departures not including retirements -- and it's posted with some telling numbers:
