Jon Vatcher ; of Ramsey Golf and Country Club
Jon Vatcher continues to hone his skills as a one-handed golfer, and earlier this season he was rewarded with his first hole-in-one. Vatcher aced the 186-yard 18th hole at Basking Ridge Country Club with a 7-wood, and the Ramsey resident carries the ball with him in his golf bag in a separate pocket.
Pursuing the Passion ; Northwood Golf Club Members Get Out and Play
If there were no Northwood Golf Club, Jim Dugan would be forced to spend more time "cleaning out my basement or my garage." If Bob Chorey couldn't join dozens of Northwood members in a round of golf, more of his days would be dedicated to "weeding my wife's flower garden."

Atp Makeover Comes in 2007 ; Round Robins Top Revision List
NEW YORK In the first steps of a bid to increase tennis' appeal, the ATP is making changes to some tournaments on the 2007 men's tour, including using a round-robin format, starting events on Sundays rather than Mondays and reducing the number of best-of-five- set finals. The initiatives announced Sunday also include the first widespread prize money increase since 2000, a 10 percent hike at events currently at the minimum purse level.
Bluegrass Cat Forced to Retire
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. Bluegrass Cat became the latest 3-year- old colt forced into retirement by injury. The Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes runner-up, who also finished second to Bernardini in the Travers on Saturday, broke a bone in his right hind leg.

Chase Hype Left Unfulfilled ; Kenseth's Victory has Little Impact On Top 10
BRISTOL, Tenn. The buildup to the night race at Bristol Motor Speedway always is huge. Anything can happen. Scores will be settled. The championship field will be scrambled. Word of warning: Don't believe the hype.
The Rutgers men's soccer team dropped its second straight game in San Diego, losing, 1-0, in overtime Sunday to San Diego State, which got a goal from Andrew DiCiccio in the 92nd minute. "The refereeing for both games was abysmal [including Saturday against the University of San Diego]. There was just way too much habitual fouling. There was a blatant foul in the first half of this game that should have been called but wasn't," said Rutgers coach Bob Reasso. "It's also tough for any team to t...
UNCASVILLE, Conn. An attitude adjustment made all the difference for the Detroit Shock, the newly crowned Eastern Conference champs. Rebounding from a nine-point loss to Connecticut in Game 2 of the conference finals Saturday night, the Shock were dominant from the opening tip Sunday night and routed the Sun, 79-55, to earn their second trip to the WNBA finals. They'll take on defending WNBA champion Sacramento in a best-of-five series beginning Wednesday.

Pitching a used car August 28, 2006
Arms race The damp, chilly weather the past two days almost suggested October. Fortunately for the Mets, the calendar still reads August. That's good, because the team still isn't certain when three of the veteran pitchers (and probable postseason starters) will return to game action.
Positively Damon-ic August 28, 2006
Hurting again Just when the Yankees seemed ready to finally activate Carl Pavano, the right-hander has complained of a new pain. Today, he'll be examined for a muscle ache near his rib cage, just below his right armpit.
NEW YORK A standout New York third baseman is in a horrendous hitting slump. You've heard that one before. But this tale has a much different twist. Unlike his more storied counterpart in the Bronx, David Wright isn't being serenaded by boos from the home fans. Talk-radio callers aren't suggesting that he be traded, and his manager isn't shuffling him up and down in the lineup.
Mike Jacobs hit a pinch-hit double to drive home Jeremy Hermida with two outs in the ninth inning to lead Florida past Milwaukee, 4- 3, Sunday in Miami and give the Marlins their seventh straight victory. The surprising Marlins pulled to within three games behind Cincinnati in the NL wild-card race. Florida moved within three games of .500 for the first time since April 15.
Kenny Rogers knew the situation and stepped up. Rogers put on a pitching performance that Detroit desperately needed, and the Tigers backed him with four home runs, beating the Cleveland Indians, 7-1, Sunday and ending a four-game losing streak.
