Indians Club Rogers, Tigers

Kenny Rogers didn't make it out of the first inning when Cleveland scored seven runs and the Indians held off the Detroit Tigers long enough for a 12-7 victory Tuesday in Cleveland. Rogers (11-4) walked three and didn't retire any of the first seven hitters while being roughed up for a season-high seven runs and five hits in his shortest outing in more than 13 years.

Body Heat Key in Lance's Case? ; Temperature May Harm Cancer

CHICAGO A new but unproven theory says body heat might explain Lance Armstrong's astounding victory over testicular cancer. The theory disputed by Armstrong's doctor refers to the unusually high cure rate for testicular cancer, even when it has spread to other parts of the body.

Guiel's Gone Wild ; so Who Needs Bonds? Yankees Have Aaron

ARLINGTON, Texas As Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has proved before, there are potential gems to be found in the dustbin of discarded players. When the high demands by other clubs make the trade route difficult to navigate, there's always the waiver wire.

Damon's Back a Worry ; Freak Injury Keeping Him Out of Starting Lineup

ARLINGTON, Texas Prior to his drive to Ameriquest Field, Johnny Damon had someone else open the car door for him Tuesday afternoon. Somehow, Damon strained his back while getting into a vehicle Monday. For a second straight night, Damon was out of the Yankees' starting lineup, and the center fielder was unsure of when he would be available.

Cracks in Mets' Armor ; Suffer Third Straight Loss As Glavine Is Roughed Up

NEW YORK At least give Tom Glavine credit for honesty Tuesday night. Of course, not since June 23 has he been credited with a victory. After allowing eight runs, five earned, in 61/3 innings of the Mets' 8-6 loss to the Cubs at Shea Stadium, Glavine was asked about the Mets' pitching situation.

Gomez Satisfied After Being Awarded $5m

Scott Gomez got the money he wanted. Now, Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello has to figure out a way to fit it in and keep the core of his team intact. Lamoriello promised to try to do just that after learning Tuesday night that Gomez received a one-year, $5 million contract in salary arbitration.

Cracks in Armor ; Glavine Falters As Mets Drop Third in a Row

NEW YORK The dominant Tom Glavine of April is just a memory. Current reality for the 40-year-old left-hander is starting to get a bit harsh, with Tuesday night the latest and perhaps most vivid demonstration.

Quit While You're Ahead? Not Necessarily

I can't tell you how many times I've heard people over the years say things to me like, "Looks like you're winning big. You should probably quit before you give it back." Frankly, they just don't understand how poker works. They're often the same people who suffer huge losses at the table, but only manage very small wins.

Jersey's Finest Invade Vegas

The last four winners of the main event of the World Series of Poker have been a one-time chiropractor and mortgage broker from Australia, a patent lawyer from Connecticut, an accountant from Tennessee and an investment banker from Long Island. Why can't this year's winner be a student or painter from New Jersey?

LAS VEGAS LeBron James already knew he would be on the U.S. National Team's 15-man traveling roster when coach Mike Krzyzewski announced it Tuesday. Yet James still got a thrill from hearing he's definitely headed to Asia for next month's World Championships.
