The Pc Guy: Clutter Buster

Thanks to computers, I've achieved a degree of victory against clutter. Over the years I've accumulated a few thousand photos, nearly 3,000 records and CDs, and literally tens of thousands of personal papers, newspaper clippings and assorted odds and ends. In an ideal world, my photos would be stored logically in folders with consistent names such as Friends-Summer-1980 and Family-Winter- 2004. My newspaper articles would be neatly sorted by subject and arranged chronologically.

Threads for the Wired ; Clothes Blend Form and Function

We ordinary mortals have only two hands. And how many items, really, can we throw in a bag or clip to a belt? That's why you'll be seeing more and more clothes and accessories designed by entrepreneurs who know we need better hands-free ways to carry, locate and use our electronic gear.

Ask Jeeves Butler Gets Boot

His New York-based company bought Ask Jeeves for $2.3 billion in July.

Low-Cost Broadband in Demand

When Americans go online at home, three out of five now take the fast lane, according to a survey released Thursday by Nielsen/ NetRatings. In August, more than 61 percent of American visits to the Internet were connected by broadband, which includes cable modems, digital subscriber lines and satellite and fiber connections, Nielsen found. That's up from about 51 percent a year earlier.

Cool Toys: Ipod Nano Gear

The selection of Apple-branded nano gear is modest but not shabby. Here's the good and the bad: * Nano Tubes. These are rubber sleeves that pull over the player (none too easily) for smudge and scratch protection. The scroll wheel is shielded while staying operational, but the screen isn't protected. Five-packs, with blue, purple, green, pink and "clear" Tubes, cost $29.
